My stab at the new site style!
My stab at the new site style!
Here it is at last, my starter for 10! Have a look and let me have your comments ...
Style :
- No frames - for faster loading
- Extensive use of CSSs - for ease of changing style
- Limited graphics - for faster loading
- Avoided proprietary Elements and Attributes - should display as intended on most browsers
- Fixed width to fit any resolution from 640 upwards - should display as intended
What I have done :
- Home Page and Event Page, plus associated pages
What I haven't done yet :
- Added all the pages as this depends upon your feedback
- Optimised pictures for size or resolution (I've nicked them from other sites)
- Reworded any of the words (I've lifted them straight from the current site)
- Created Image Map for map of event locations (I don't have a nice easy tool to do this)
- Added Title, Meta or Name Elements/Attributes
- Necessarily added correct URLs
- Formatted the tables I've copied off current site (except the Event one)
- Included the Chat Room - suggestion is we use the free software available on the Polaris site
Do these still work using different browsers (I have IE5) :
- Buttons change colour upon mouse-over, and line-up correctly
- Titles with shadows display correctly (e.g. Aims, Insurance)
- 'Mailto' HREF (e.g. any with Mick Tucker's e-mail address)
- Font style and size (should all be Verdana
Your comments on :
- Site structure in terms of sections and the pages they appear on. I'm not too concerned about the links between sections, as these will naturally fall-out when the words are written (they are just indicitive at this stage - I assume you've found the link at the start of this point?)
- Any of the above style decisions
- Do we need some bespoke graphics?
- Loading some frames into their own window (e.g Membership Application Form, Environmental Policy). I decided to do this when a page was likely to be called from several places.
- Buttons (my first attempt at rollon/off). I didn't want graphics as this would involve someone creating them everytime we want to change the text or add new pages.
- Text colour, inc hyperlinks, remembering that some visitors may be colour blind
- The bubble left and right border (I thought it gave a more interesting page layout - personal choice of course!)
- Use of map background
- Yellow box for 'breaking news/announcements'
